Faculty & Staff
Jocelyn Lanorio
Dr. Jocelyn Lanorio teaches general, inorganic, and industrial chemistry, as well as First-Year Seminar and Senior Seminar at ³Õºº¾ãÀÖ²¿. Her research focuses on transition metal catalysts and sustainable chemical synthesis, involving undergraduate students directly in hands-on research projects. Having served as Co-PI on the Access to Early Research Opportunities in STEM program (supported by an NSF S-STEM grant), she strongly believes in the transformative power of early research experiences. In addition to her faculty and research roles, she serves as an advisor in the Medical School Preparation Program, guiding students as they prepare for careers in healthcare and medicine. She is also an active leader in the American Chemical Society, serving in executive roles for the ACS ³Õºº¾ãÀÖ²¿ Heartland Local Section, including Local Section Chair (2022) and Secretary.
What do you enjoy most about working with students?
I love helping students discover their strengths and achieve their biggest goals. Chemistry is a powerful field of study, and I strive to create an encouraging, collaborative environment where students excel, whether through hands-on discovery in my classes, conducting research with students at all levels, or guiding seniors through their capstone projects. Seeing my students build real confidence, earn awards at scientific conferences, gain admission to medical or graduate school, and launch exciting careers is the best part of my work.
Jocelyn Lanorio is one of the best professors I have ever had. You can tell she really cares about her students and helping them learn and she did a great job at helping me through parts of the course I didn't understand as well. Very approachable teacher and willing to help you with anything you need. Definitely wants her students to be successful.
